1469174 2020-06-01 03:36:00 I have 2 email accounts, Snap, which is seldom used, mainly because of its pathetically small inbox, and a gmail one which gets the vast majority of the traffic. For a few weeks now, maybe since a Win10 update, I frequently get a message saying: "Your snap account settings are out of date". I rang Snap, and was told that they didn't cause it, but gave me the following information by text:

Incoming POP3 Server address: pop.snap.net.nz
Incoming IMAP Server address: imap.snap.net.nz
Incoming POP3 Port: 995
Incoming IMAP Port: 143
Outgoing Server address: smtp.snap.net.nz
Outgoing Server Port: 587 (Apple devices)
465 (all other devices)

I have checked and where necessary corrected the server addresses, but don't know how to set the ports. Can anyone help?

1469175 2020-06-01 07:35:00 What email program are you using?

We'd need to know that first.
In Thunderbird EDIT Account Settings
Server Settings
And just chnage PORT in the box there, ditto for Outgoing server...

FYI, it looks like Snap email is a ~dead~ product/service . Start planning to move everything off it to gmail .
Chances are at some time it will be killed off or simply stop working properly . As has happened to other old NZ email services when the company was sold/bought .

This shows you how. Obviously you want to use the Snap settings, not these guys ones.

1469179 2020-06-25 03:24:00 Thanks for the advice, I seem to have finally resolved the problem. I got into the account settings, although I use outlook 2010, they where similar enough to find my way. I changed the por4ts to those given by snap, but couldn't even get connected. I clicked on the "use defaults' on the advanced screen, but was told that the encryption was wrong I set the SMTP to TLS encryption and it seems to be OK, or at least I haven't had the annoying error messages since.

The port settings that snap gave me were: IMAP 143, SMTP 465.

The port settings that I have now are: IMAP 143 no encryption, SMTP 25 TLS encryption.

1469180 2020-07-07 22:52:00 Prior to my previous post, I was getting several error messages a day; after the changes that I quoted I hade one or two over the next day or two, but now I am back to several a day, not as many as earlier, but more than recently. I checked that the setting had not changed, and I got a confirming Microsoft email to say that it was OK. Any comments? Brucem (8688)
1469181 2020-07-08 00:04:00 Any comments?

Yes
Chances are they wont be putting much effect into keeping this running smoothly long term

Or something like Protonmail if you don't want Google to read all your emails...

You know. When I worked at Webdrive I had to sort email accounts occasionally. You think we A)Had time to read them? and B)Cared?

Some nong once wanted me to clean his inbox out, he had a stuck email...and about 5000 spams...as well as every other email ever received.
Like I'd know which he wanted and which he didn't and had a week to trawl through them.Not.
