1468912 2020-05-25 02:40:00 I have a older laptop running Linux Lite.
I wish to cast video from it to a smart tv.
But it will not find the tv.
It will find a chromecast on another tv.
I can cast to the smart tv from any other device I try, just not from Linux Lite.
Probably a very simple solution, any ideas ?

So many follow up question?

What are you casting from? Chrome in Linux Lite or a smart phone app? What app? or What site (for chrome)?

Maybe the smart tv (what brand/model) has a weird ChromeCast implementation.

The other Smart tv, does that use a plugged in chromecast, or is it with built in chromecast as well?

1468914 2020-05-25 03:31:00 Finally, after so long we get a Linux question and it's about something I know nothing about not having a smart TV or a Chromecast device and no experience with "casting" to date.

Sorry, I can't help with this one. :groan:

1468915 2020-05-25 03:56:00 Attempting to cast from chromium browser in Linux Lite, also from you tube on same browser.
Also attempting to cast from VLC media player on Linux Lite.
None of these will find the tv
TV is LG 55SM8100PVA, no chromecast on this tv, all through wifi.
The other tv I mentioned is not smart & has a chromecast.

1468916 2020-05-25 03:56:00 Don't know my way around Linux but if you have VLC Media player(latest Build)

If this is included for the Linux build-go playback/ Renderer then under local your chromecast should appear if configured

1468917 2020-05-25 04:14:00 There are a few methods of casting from Linux.
The easiest is via Chrome.
Not Chromium - Chrome.
Install it and away you go.

1468918 2020-05-25 04:14:00 You are correct it does find the chromecast on the bedroom TV, but won't find the smart TV in the lounge. Driftwood (5551)

Maybe, but my main intention is to cast DVD'S from this laptop to the smart TV.
So thats why I have VLC player.

Scroll down to "Screen mirroring from PC to an LG Smart TV". It might be your answer.

1468921 2020-05-25 05:15:00 Thanks Bryan, I think that would work ok if it was a windows system, but not with Linux.
My wifes windows 10 laptop finds the tv no problem.
It's just a Linux issue.
