64783 2002-07-24 04:41:00 I recently got my pc rebuilt, upgrading just about everything. I got a 40 gb hard drive, but also kept my original 8 gb hard drive, which is now D drive. I was previously running Windows 98 SE and was just going to update to XP but the guy behind the counter suggested getting the full version as it was only a dollar darer. I was reassured I wouldn't lose anything off the 8 gig drive and I'd still be able to access all my emails/addys from Outlook, wrong, wrong, wrong! It's still all there on the 8 gig but I've got problems. The hard drives have not been partitioned (I don't even know how to do it), so are both running under XP. I also have other programs that won't work like Excel, Access and Powerpoint etc (they are all on the 8 gig). I have tried the program compatibility wizard but it didn't work. Does anyone know how I could possibly access these other programs and all my old emails etc? A friend told me to make a back up of the file named outlook.pst (size 70.2mb) before the re-build, but I am a little hesitant about putting that file into my "new" Outlook Express folder.
Thanks in advance.

64784 2002-07-24 04:54:00 You cannot "run" the programs from the 8 gB drive, as programs must be "installed" from the original CDs to allow the new Windows XP to recognise them. Almost all programs are like this, and have been since Windows 95.

All your data that you have created is OK and will be able to be accessed once the programs are installed.

Your emails will likely be available, I do not use OE so cannot help but there will be a method to import them into your new version.

Good luck!

64785 2002-07-24 04:58:00 Further (just had a look here) when you get Outlook installed and running, you can go file-import, then select file, and point it at the 70 MB .pst file on the 8 GB drive and it will import it all, just like it was on the old system. godfather (25)
