64485 2002-07-23 05:37:00 Well if ur using xp this problem can be fixed quite easily, first of all load the win xp cd into ur cdrom and restart the comp, when the computer comes to the ntldr missing screen then press enter and u will go into the basic dos mode, from there type c: then type D: copy ntdetect.com C: D: is the cdrom drive, then type D: copy boot.ini C:. Then type D:copy ntldr C:, then is should work, if it says to replace a file do so then if that doesn’t work u will need a friend who has win xp as well, now go to ur friend and take a floppy disk now ask him to copy these three files + make sure that u have enabled the viewing of hidden or system files:
1.boot.ini
2.ntdetect.com
3.ntldr

now once they have been copied to floppy go back and disable the viewing of hidden or system files. Now bootup ur comp and go into bios by hitting the delete key and go into cmos setting (I think) and set the floppy drive as the first bootup device. No restart and keep the floppy in the drive and when the comp restarts it should bootup properly to windows and from their copy the three files from the floppy to the c drive. Hopefully should work.

Cheers

64486 2002-07-23 05:38:00 You need to tell us what operating system, but have a look at this link anyway, it may help.

64487 2002-07-23 05:39:00 See here ( . webopedia . com/TERM/N/NTLDR . html" target="_blank">www . webopedia . com) .

"Short for NT Loader, a program loaded from the hard drive boot sector that displays the Microsoft Windows NT startup menu and helps Windows NT load .

Often a user will see the message "NTLDR is Missing" after attempting to install Windows 2000 or Windows XP, or upgrade a Windows 95-based or Windows 98-based computer to Windows 2000 or Windows XP . The message appears after the first reboot . This occurs only if Windows 95 or 98 has been installed on a drive with the FAT32 file system .

To correct the problem, the user must boot the computer with a Windows 95 or 98 Startup diskette or another bootable diskette with sys . com on it . Then, at the "A:\>" prompt, type "sys c:" and press "enter . " A "System Transferred" prompt should appear and then the user must reboot the computer without the diskette . "

Does that help?

64490 2002-07-23 05:45:00 Carlo: Don't worry about your parents knowing. Tell them. It's NOT YOUR FAULT. Computers do things like this. Often. :-(

The problem is that you could make it worse by panicky attempts to "fix" it. See what your parents want to do: they might prefer to take it to a shop. If it's new and still under guarantee, it's certainly worth checking with the shop. They know your system.

64491 2002-07-23 05:55:00 yeah i agree with Graham, don't get too panicked, i had exactly the same problem as u, i did exactly wot i wrote and i fixed it, but be careful get someone who knows wot they r doin to help u out. the second method should definetly work and is way more easier if u r not that confident with dos and bios, it's guaranteed 100%.

cheers,
