64605 2002-07-25 09:39:00 yes......yes we all abide by the rules. ;\ ;\ ;) ;)

I think the fact that it is illegal to make back up copies of CD's and programs is so full of ****.

In the states you are allowed to make 3 copies of an audio cd. One for work, one for a portable device such as walkman or laptop and one as a backup.

Any way mike I think you would be fine with Using Windows to burn files to CDR and media player to burn MP3's, and to use CloneCD for copying 1:1 copies of games and programs (that is if you decide to rebel our current laws).

However a second hand copy of Nero or something similar would come in handy if you want to muck around with CD Burning options as XP doesn't offer that many options and configuration capabilities.

so what features would those be? This is what I'm wanting to know - why get something rather than the Windows XP software . . . finally I'm getting somewhere!

64607 2002-07-25 10:15:00 With a specialist burning program you can decide what format it is burnt in and the speed. You can also over burn, if you have files slightly larger than what the cd says will fit on it.
I had a link all about cd burning I will try and look for it for you.

CD Burning Becomes Routine (www.microsoft.com)

CD Burning Software Roundup (www.techtv.com)

Just another suggestions, I had Prassi Primo CD Plus bundled with my computer and it seems to do the job well. It features the following modes,

Data Disc
Audio Disc
Disc copy - CD ROM to CDRW or CDRW to HD to CDRW

64610 2002-07-25 10:50:00 Well, Lets see, Nero has So many uses (Yeah, I know you've heard that lots lately)
It's not only great for fully customization of audio Cd's (Like how long a ggap to leave between songs) but for data storage (CD-Name, date to give the files, like when created and last modified can come in real handy!)
What about V-CD's for your PS2? I've not tried it out, but will be in a week or two! Change those music video's you downloaded into and Mpeg1 file and then burn like a dvd cd!
GTG, hope this has helped a little
Jo
BTW, Nero has a lot less tendancy to coast a cD than most other pieces of software

I burned some game movie trailers onto a CD and tried them on my DVD, and it works perfectly :)

64613 2002-07-26 06:42:00 With Linux out for the PS2, I thinnk anything would be possible - from VCD to MP3 Cds... Elwin Way (229)
64614 2002-08-01 04:01:00 Yeah, the linux on PS2 Sounds like fun, wonder if they'll make a windows for it??? That'd really kill sony, and open up a whole lot of un-invited hacking, I think I'll start a post on it!
