2002-07-24 05:18:00 | what i meant to type is if i go to start > progs > etc i don't have character map on my 98SE machine. What is the name of the program this shortcut is supposed to take me to? Where else might i find a character map?

2002-07-24 05:19:00 | Another thought Chris - if you still can't find character map you may have to install it from your Win CD with Add/Remove Programs. It may not have been installed by default. | Susan B (19) | |

2002-07-24 05:25:00 | In the Windows folder it's charmap.exe | Susan B (19) | |
2002-07-24 05:34:00 | Not in my windows folder, or anyother for that matter! Looks like you're right, i might have to find where i hid the windows CD and install the prog from that.

2002-07-24 05:49:00 | ahhh much better...... thanks all for your help, All i asked for was how to type a "©", and now i got a full map, AND a web resourse to make sure characters survive html seems that "©" survives in both opera and IE though,

2002-07-24 06:49:00 | Another thing I have learned. Truly amazing Am running Windows 98SE and have often wondered what that Character Map was all about and now I even know how to use it!!!!!! This really is a fantastic place to find answers to all those queries. Have a good evening Iris

2002-07-24 09:58:00 | That's cool Chris (and Iris). :-) I don't know what browsers can't display character symbols but I got my hand smacked last year for not using the code for quote symbols, ie " things and for the copyright symbol. It might be Netscape that can't display them, I'm not sure. Or it might be the older versions of all the browsers, which some people still use. It's just "good manners" to use the codes, apparently.
