64832 2002-07-24 07:28:00 I am sick to death of the way HP's scanner software insists on 'fixing' my scanning errors. If I scan a graphic at an angle, it's because that's what I want. If I want 10mm of white space around the object I'm scanning, then so it should be. End of story.

But HP's 'Intelligent Technology' won't allow me the freedom to do what I want, so I'd like to stop using the software.

Which is the point of this post. Does anyone know of a 'universal' TWAIN application that will allow me to control the scanner in the way that I want to control it, rather than the way HP's 'intelligence' dictates?

Any suggestions (on topic, of course :-) )will be most welcome.

Thanks in advance.

64833 2002-07-24 08:41:00 Yup I can understand your frustration. I have an HP scanner as well that comes with HP PrecisionScan software. The trouble is that sometimes it selects the wrong area (or region as it calls it) so you have to do a bit of mucking around.

Perhaps you could try turning off the AutoRegion as I have done. Select settings-preferences-auto detect then uncheck the "Detect Regions on Page" checkbox.

I havent been frustrated enough to find new software so sorry I cant recommend any particular replacement.

good luck

64834 2002-07-25 11:04:00 Alternative Twain for HP.
You may like to look at www.twaintools.de or www.graphicssoft.about.com/cs/scansw.
A wider search with Google using "twain software" reveals further sites.

64836 2002-07-25 12:17:00 Some apps have a scan option to aquire the image. Does that get around it? MS Picture It from Office 97 has the option, but I haven't used it and my scanner is now broke wotz (335)
64837 2002-07-25 12:24:00 I know the Corel Photopaint, Adobe Photochop, and Paint Shop Pro have built in image aquiring. With Photopaint (not sure about the others) you can choose wether to use built in software or the scanner software. Elwin Way (229)
