The Problem:
When selecting Start|Shut down|OK the screen goes blank BUT both the PC and the Screen's power indicator lights remain on (green). The PC remains 'running'. Full shut down is achieved by holding the On/Off button in for approximately 4-5 seconds.

On boot up, scan disc starts as if there was an inproper shut down.

Also, I no longer have the 'Power Options' displayed/available in the Start|Settings|Control Panel. It seems to have disappeared completely!

I think the power options I had set previously have some how taken control of shutting down the PC. I can't access these settings anymore because I have lost access to them.

How can I restore the Power Options facility to the Control Panel and how can I fix the shut down problem(s)?

64787 2002-07-24 04:41:00 Cant explain the loss of power options in the control panel, but it sounds like the PC is going into "hibernation" mode instead of a shutdown.

The scandisk routine will run when a hard shutdown is foces, so thats to be expected.

You could try disabling hibernation but thats in power options...bit like painting yourself into a corner. TweakUI has options to display/hide control panel functions, I dont suppose you ran that utility at any stage?

You could try going start-run and type sfc <space> /scannow

That will run system file checker which will replace any corrupted .dll system files, at least its a start.

64790 2002-07-25 00:12:00 Have run Tweak UI before this problem occured..

There is nothing in the 'Control Panel' list of .cpl files for the Power Setting.

I do have qtw32.cpl listed - No description displayed to tell me what it may belong to.

If you are running Tweak UI, what is listed for the Power Setting .cpl?

64791 2002-07-25 02:39:00 Hi nzchrise,in Tweak UI the only ref I have to Power is - powercfg.cpl -
and beside it,Power Management Configuration Control Panel Applet.
