64504 2002-07-23 06:51:00 When you copy data off cd roms to the hard disk it comes in readonly format how do i fix this? Brad H (738)
64505 2002-07-23 07:26:00 Right-click the files/folders and change the properties so that they are not read-only. -=JM=- (16)

64508 2002-07-24 05:13:00 Here's a wee trick I learned....you've probably noticed that right-clicking and deselecting the read only attributes doesn't apply the settings to any sub directories. If you have lots of directories this can be a real pain.

If you right-click on the uppermost directory in the directory tree and choose "find"...then do a search for *.* it will find every file in that directory. Next hit "CTRL A" to select them all and right-click...now you can change the read-only attributes of an entire directory including any sub directories.

I've noticed Windows XP doesn't automatically assign read only to any files copied from a CD.

64509 2002-07-24 05:37:00 That's a good tip Scott, thanks.

The first time I struck this problem I figured out how to do it in good ol' DOS. I still reckon it's the easiest way. Only trouble is, it's fossil country... :D
