64499 2002-07-23 05:04:00 Greetings,

Thank you for a mag that has saved me many times. Your help pages are excellent.

I'm a complete newbie, so please be patient. I have several questions:

Bought new computer from PC Co. It came with Intel Pentium 4 1.7GHz, XP, 512 MbPC2100DDR Ram, - i hope this is enough info.

It took a long time b4 I noticed I could open no attachments. Thru' a mag, I learned that NAV 2001 became incompatible with XP, and tried to update. Symantec sent me a letter with 5 pages of instructions on how to remove NAV2001 so I could replace it with the one that is compatible. 5 pages of computer speak melted my brain down, and, days later, I've done nothing. Should I send my puta back to PC and ask them to do the above work? Is there an alternative cos I don't like to be without it now. I also work as a freelance journalist, and use it daily.

My second question concerns my Google search bar which used to reside below the address bar. It's GONE! How do I get it back? I do quite a bit of research and it was useful.

Hoping you canhelp,
Kind regards

Another thing you may like to try is the compatibility update for Norton A.V 2001 - i got a puter from same place and got Norton 2001 working after installing the compatibility update from windows updates (if you haven't already tried this) but in saying that i updated to Norton A.V 2002 instead of renewing the sub which was $50 for a year and the pc co. were only giving a 3 month subscription which catches a lot of people out - me included, and it was only another $25 for Norton A.V 2002 with a years subscription. So you may fall into the same category in 3 months time, but the update could tide you over till then if it works for you.
Or have you already got the newer version? If so definately install the new version - another option is being a pc. co puter you will have probably got the warranty with the 0800 no - so you could ring them and they will walk you through uninstalling the old one - the help techs are very good actually. The Phone no. is 0800 477 588 or 0800 666 789 - And you will need your warranty no when you ring, you might as well get your moneys worth from them and use the help line! ;-)
