65102 2002-07-25 06:22:00 Ok so I need a laptop and I don't want to spend anymore than $5000.

Heres what I'll be using it for:
- want to ditch my desktop so this will be my main pc
- i'm a university student so don't want a huge heavy thing
- don't really play many games (The SIMS and dinky minesweeper and stuff)
- use the internet lots and download huge amounts
- want to be able to watch dvds and burn cds

Heres what I was thinking of getting

- Either P4 2.0GHz or Celeron 1.8 GHz (which one is best?) processor
- At least 30-40 GB hard drive
- DVD/CDRW Combo
- Floppy drive
- Win XP Prof
- 256meg ram (maybe more?)
- Network/Modem card
- all the usual ports, eg monitor, mouse, keyboard, sound, printer etc

Does this all sound right? Or can you offer any better solutions?

Its pretty much whats in my desktop at present (Win 98SE, P3 733mhz, 256mg ram, dvd, cdrw etc).

Thanks for your help.

65103 2002-07-25 23:01:00 I can source you a Compaq Evo N1000v series notebook:

- P4 2.0GHz
- 256MB ram
- 30GB HDD (supplied standard)
- 15.0 TFT
- 32MB video
- FDD
- DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo
- NIC/Modem
- Touchpad
- Bundled with XP Prof

And replace the HDD with a 40GB if you are interested? It'll probably work out around $4500 inc gst(neg). I can also supply a similar model with 20GB HDD (replacable) and a 14.1 TFT (rest of the specs the same) for around $4300 inc gst (neg)..

If you're interested let me know :)
