65059 2002-07-25 03:18:00 Hello!

Has anyone had anything to do with the Virtual Drive software? My problem: I have an avi file that I want to watch on my TV through my DVD player, which supports VCD, but of course it won't play anything I guess due to codecs etc.
If I used Virtual Drive, could I then take the movie, convert it to a VCD and write to CD and play on the DVD to then of course watch on my TV?
If it works I would be a happy man...

Any help greatly apprecited.

65060 2002-07-25 05:34:00 sounds like you have your software mixed up a tad. i think you mean virtual dub. i can't remember if it converts to mpeg or not. have a look in tuesday or wednesdays news as there was a program that will convert avi to mpeg so you can burn it as a vcd and play it on your dvd player. tweak'e (174)
65061 2002-07-25 07:49:00 there are programs which do the entire process for u like nero burning rom, it will do all the work for u if u have an avi file, but if you don't there are many sites to download free programs that can do this for u. Try going here (http://www.cdmediaworld.com) to find heaps of programs, most free, there maybe the occaisional illegal pirate software on the net just avoid those (if u can) :D Oh and by the way like tweak'e said virtual cd can't do that, virtual dub can.

cheers,

I think you've been a little confused by the file extension used by Virtual Drive. It creates an image of your CD and saves it as a .VCD file, which stands for "Virtual Compact Disk" - totally different from the VCD that you can play on your DVD player. You'll need to find software that'll record VCDs to do that.

Thanks for clearing that up (and others who replied). I did not think I was confused as I *was* talking about Virutal Drive and not Virtual Dub, but yes I thought by the readme supplied that it could create VCD files to play on my DVD....bummer.
