64987 2002-07-24 23:29:00 Okay I got some artwork done in Adobe Illustrator - I opened it in Photoshop and edited it, then saved it as a Jpeg so I could pass it on to my friend who only has Paint. Paint won't open it. When I try to open the JPEG from my desktop (ie not in Photoshop) it won't open either - yet I can open it in Photoshop. What gives anyone?? denise (1155)
64988 2002-07-24 23:52:00 have you tried saving it as a bitmap (.bmp) and resending it? honeylaser (814)
64989 2002-07-25 00:34:00 What is the file extension? If you can't open it from the desktop it might be because the file extension is unrecognised - you are on Windows not Mac?

Does it have a .jpg or a .jpeg extension?

If it is .jpeg, just highlight the file and chnage the extension to.jpg. Tehn whatever program you have associated with .jpg (it may be IE, not Photoshop) should open it.

64991 2002-07-25 02:50:00 Hi Denise

Paint will open Jpegs, but you may have to download a different version of paint.exe. If you already have the right version and still can't open jpegs you have to edit the registry to put that file type into the drop down file name list. There is a FAQ answer on Microsoft's website for the registry changes and I'll have a look for the right file version (it's on my computer) and post where to go to download it.

64992 2002-07-25 03:48:00 Hi Denise

The site to download the improved version of MsPaint is here (members.aol.com).

The file to download is called Paint95.exe and is a self-extracting zip file containing the exe and 3 DLL files. Instructions on what to do are on the site.

The verson of Paint.exe you want is 344064KB in size, dated 11-5-1998. The 1999 version is smaller at 319xxxKB. Don't be fooled by the earlier date or the Paint95 name, it's the real deal.

For the required registry edits search for Q299953 on the Microsoft site.

For further assistance that might even jpg-enable the old MsPaint, take a look here (www.geocities.com)

64993 2002-07-25 04:33:00 Billy: "is 344064KB". 344 megabytes? I know that bloat is expanding but Oh dear . :_| Perhaps you mean 344064 bytes . ;-) Graham L (2)

64995 2002-07-25 09:06:00 Are you actually saving it as a jpeg. You may be accidentally saving it as a different format.

eg. piturename.jpg.psp
