2002-07-25 10:35:00 | Hi there, I have just installed widows xp and because my modem was not compatible I downloaded the generic driver from the manufacturers site (conextant). It now works perfectly except that it is very noisy (screechy) all the time I am connected. I have turned the modem speaker to off but that did not help. It was an HSF driver if that helps at all. Any solutions ??

2002-07-25 11:04:00 | Thanks for reply, My problem is that it is noisy all the time (right now even) not just noisy when it is dialing up. Is think this problem is different to the one addressed in FAQ #35 as I have already muted the modem speaker with no luck.

2002-07-25 11:16:00 | Welcome to the world of connexant soft modems. Want another one?? Their compatability is as varied as every hardware combination. Try uninstalling it, removing it physically, replacing it in a different PCI slot, reinstall. Then dig a hole and bury it....

2002-07-25 11:20:00 | Seems a bit odd that we have all of a sudden a lot of queries about connextant modems. Have we just had a sudden surge of them into the country or is it just that there timers have hit self destruct? | Elwin Way (229) | |
2002-07-25 13:37:00 | I had the same problem when I first installed win xp. I have tried lots of different drivers but can't find one that turns the modem speaker off when I connect to the net. The simple solution to this is to plug something into the speaker out port in the back of the modem. I just have a cord that is connected to nothing and it eliminates the noise. I also had problems connecting to the net. It would only connect after about three attempts. If you have this problem try using this initialization string +ms=v90,,,,,52000 PS Conextent only make the modem chipset. If you open up your pc and have a look at the modem it will probably say somewhere its make and model. This may help you search for the right driver.
