| 65390 | 2002-07-25 11:25:00 | I have become inspired by Kazaa's sudden halt to list off all the things I can think of that are annoying me, hopefully this will sort most of em out. Computer specs- AMD athlon XP 2000+ , 512DDR RAM , Win XP home ed. , 55 GB HD and an asus A7A266 motherboard. That should do :) 1. To start things off, when I'm in chat rooms, and also when I'm just typing sometimes, my ' key doesn't work. You have to press it, then press the space bar for it to show up, and then you have to press space again just to get a space. This also seems to happen with the ^ key and I have no idea what's causing it, (And yes, it did it just then). 2. Kazaa actually does still work I noticed, but it's Diet kazza that isn't, and the older version of it won't work either. It says my mswinsck.ocx file is out of date, yet it has been running fine up till yesterday. Although I have installed stuff on it that could've affected it, I highly doubt it did. 3. I constantly have keymaestro running in the taskbar, because it starts at windows startup, but I never use the special keys up the topic, and from what I gather, that is all it does, so it is necessary to have it running? I don't wanna changed it in some way and find it's needed for something else. 4. This one isn't really anything.. I was just wondering if I can change the welcome screen on XP? I am the only user, so I don't have the logon screen, but I'd like to make it look a little cooler if possible :) 5. A while back I posted on here to see what 'Generic host process for win32 services' was, as it wanted to acess the internet through Zonealarm, and I was told it should be fine. But as of late I've checked out my running processes and I've found there's 6 different 'versions' so to speak are running virtually all the time, and it bugs me as I have no idea what it is and I don't really think I should let it acess the internet now. It hails under the name svchost.exe The main reason this one annoys me is that the amount of memory usage they're taking up in total is virtually the same as all the other processes combined. 6. My recycle bin stopped displaying the items in it a while back, but for some reason, which I can't remember, it healed itself. But now it's started doing it again, and although I can delete the things anyway and know what I'm deleteing, it seems stupid that it's doing it. Alright..I think that's all my computers problems as of late, none of them are major I guess, but if you catch them early then they won't become major, right? ;) Look forward to many responses..I hope, anyway. Go to Control Panel/Keyboard and click on the langauge tab. Check that the language is set to English (United States) - United States 101 Hope this fixes the problem and good luck with the rest. |

| 65394 | 2002-07-25 12:33:00 | After a few restarts and a nice warm coffee I'm feeling a bit better, even though I have gained no ground as of yet. I haven't tried the recycling bin trick yet, but I found the keyboard one you said about Jen doesn't exist in my menu, although I did find some options that sounded similar in the language panel, but I checked and they all seem to be in the right language. There's no US 101 anywhere though. And as for the winsock problem, I have followed everything so far, but it hasn't worked yet. I haven't given up though, there's still a few more options. |

| 65395 | 2002-07-25 13:04:00 | Well, I tried them all, and they all failed. The winsock one was the worst, i downloaded about 10 different files, to get one to work, and it still doesnt. If there isnt any miracle posts by the time I finish school tommorrow then I am just gonna roll back a couple of days, at least then I only will have 4 outta 6, i think. And some of them aren't that bad. I guess I'll just wait and see. Good luck to anyone that can help me before then. Thanks for trying though, you 3 :) |
