66172 2002-07-28 06:22:00 I was setting up a "new" PC for my parents recently and the new beast had a 40Gb hard drive instead of their old 4Gb.

I did a complete reinstall of everything (including the OS - Win98SE) and used a Win98 (or maybe it was WinMe?) boot disk to FDISK and format the 40Gb drive. FDISK reported it as 40Gb so I though we were in business.

But now (a few weeks later) I have just noticed that Win98 explorer shows it with a 4Gb capacity only. Weird! FDISK still reports the full size - as does Partition Magic (albeit an older version).

Actually Partition Magic shows 100% usage by FAT32x. Even stranger (to me).

Does anyone know a) what went wrong & b) can it be fixed? Or am I looking at another format and rebuild? (God I hope not!)

Thanks in advance
Mike

66173 2002-07-28 06:41:00 Whoops....sorry about that. Should make sure I search the MS site properly first, shouldn't I.

INIT13..etc..

Damn! Looks like it's either buy a new version of Partition Magic or a nice re-do....

Cheers
