66017 2002-07-27 10:55:00 Was told at the Dunedin Computer Expo today, that the WinXP version 2 is to be released shortly - with all the bugs ironed out. No more problems I was told. The guy was almost orgasmic! Baldy (26)

66019 2002-07-27 11:37:00 they will be referring to the service pack due for release, which I think will mainly be a cumulative sum of the updates already available?

I have been running it since xmas with no problems - its a good os.

66020 2002-07-27 11:42:00 Bugs ironed out = more introduced.

XP SP1 is going to be out very soon. As is 2K SP3.

66022 2002-07-27 12:26:00 I don't trust this SP for XP, if they send out fixes anyway, they shouldn't have anything new for it..Which brings up a few moral issues and throws about another 50 thoughts into the proverbial bucket...I will stop now. Naraku Kasai (1028)
66023 2002-07-27 12:30:00 The reason why they have sp1 is because the fixes are too big. Imagine if you formatted your drive and had to go thru downloading the fixes. The sp1 is around 600mb i think, not too sure on that but it's big. boom23 (176)

They don't send out fixes, we have to go and get them. That means if we reinstall we have to go find them again. Having a SP on CD would save us the trouble, especially if we're installing over wide networks etc. or do lots of repair work - its there to use when needed, rather than having to be looked for. Works the same way as the SPs for NT and 2K.

Also they are suggesting that Media Player 9 (I think?) and DirectX 9 will be included in SP1, which does give something new to look forward to.

66025 2002-07-27 12:43:00 Mike, I download the updates and keep them. The corporate site is closed but they are available from the catalogue site, thats how corporates do it. godfather (25)

yes I realise that :) But not everyone does do that, and if installing fresh its easier to just bang in a CD with all the updates than having to go find them.
