65887 2002-07-27 10:14:00 Er... hi Babe. Did you enjoy your neighbour's cat for tea? It was the one that ate the possum poison this morning.

Elwin, your customers can be trained to phone outside of 8:30 to 3:30 for your Manager (wife) to speak to them, or fax within those hours. If they phone and get the fax screech they'll then fax, won't they?

The fax can be set up to answer the phone whenever it rings, whether the caller is a fax or not. If you can't use the phone you won't be answering it anyway.

Five year olds are pretty good at taking messages, just not writing them down. ;-) Besides, he'll be at school and when he's not his mum will be home.

As far as combining pc repair / web site design / case mod into one business goes, you're thinking right. Diversification is the golden rule. Even Robo does it.

I hope so, otherwise I seem to be at a dead end... er, sorry HeatherP, I mean I seem to be at a roundabout with no other roads...

So is it a go?

65891 2002-07-27 10:38:00 Elwin, In your own heart of hearts ... you know the answer to that.

Go for it!

Babe.

65892 2002-07-27 10:44:00 Alright. I will! And damned anybody who stands in my way!

Er, what do I do now? :D

65893 2002-07-27 10:53:00 Make up an advert page (for on paper) stating your skills and experience and what you wish to do and fax it to as many (small?) businesses as possible offering to be their Tech Guy contractor. By that, I mean someone who comes in when they have a problem or want something done. Not an employee of the firm. Unless they want that, of course!

Say that you can fix pc problems, perform maintenance, upgrades, etc - anything they want. You do websites as well.

Put a sample of your fax advert on your website so that people here can offer advice as to its suitability.

A simple business plan (for your self to start with) just setting some goals and outlines for progress and where and where money comes from/to etc . The IRD has a couple of booklets or the local library and small business associations .

If you can put some ideas down, and along with that ad you're planning it, will help to clarify what it is you want to achieve and how you are going to do it . Because you damn well will! No ifs no buts no moans no negatives just plain hard work and the will to be the best you can be!

Cheers, Babe
