2002-07-27 11:59:00 | Win 98SE Modem is internal winmodem (Rockwell/conexant) worked fine before but we have done a format and reinstall. Now we cannot get win98 to even see the modem. We have drivers on CD but when we run the hardware wizard it doesn't find the modem. I got win98 to recognize an additional com port (com3) but still no good? Any ideas gratefully accepted as it's my father-in-laws machine and we expected things to go smoothly - like they have a number of times on mine. Thanks heaps

2002-07-27 12:06:00 | First try Start; Settings; Control Panel; System; Device Manager and see if you can fix it there. If this doesn't work then: Turn off, take the card out, restart Once loaded turn off Replace card (in a different slot if you have one), restart Good luck

2002-07-27 12:12:00 | they joys of pci modems...... these devices are highly dependent on other hardware/software configurations which introduce too many variables. first try removing the device physically, power up, shut down, reinstall and power up again. see if it finds it, so you can point it at the drivers. I have seen this before and there is no logical answer that I am aware of.

2002-07-27 14:39:00 | The CD should have a setup program on it. Run it a few times and see what happens... with a bit of luck everything will be right after the first run. | Elwin Way (229) | |

Go to control panel and look up the Device Manager which is in the System box. There will be a title "other devices" which will have an exclamation mark beside it. double click on it and select update driver, then when prompted point it to wherever your driver is for the modem and it will automatically detect the modem and install itself. |
