66534 2002-07-29 12:17:00 Hi. I have just done a clean install of Windows 98 (from 95) on my second hand (Toshiba Satellite 2520CDT) 586 Laptop, (4gig 300Mz 64Mb). However since installing Win 98 the laptop has not played video CD's properly (they played fine with Win 95), play back is slow, jerky and generally unwatchable. have tried to download new drivers from Toshiba, and played around display settings and hardware accelerating, but to no avail. Any ideas?.
I have installed Microsoft Media Player 7.1, directX 8.1 & IE 6.
Even scroling in Intenet Explorer is slow..

66535 2002-07-29 21:41:00 mmm it may not be a problem with the video per se, but the general slowing down of your PC. Win98 needs more resources to run than 95, but not significantly so. It's probably some program loading at startup that is the culprit.

If you have installed MSOffice, there is a program called findfast which is a common culprit for grinding things to a halt. Do a CTRL-ALT-DEL and look in the Task Manager and kill it. Look in your startup folder (Start|Programs|Starup) and see if its there also and give it the heave ho.

Repost if you cant see any programs starting when you boot up that may be slowing down your system.

cheers
