| 66522 | 2002-07-29 11:09:00 | compaq normally use F10 Toshiba use F1 on some models if all else fails try to force an error, hold down the space bar from the moment you switch on, it may halt to a screen that shows the option. crude, yes, but sometimes effective..... |

| 66523 | 2002-07-29 11:21:00 | compaqs have a funny setup. The BIOS isn't on a chip - it's on the first bit of the hard drive. We bought a cheap 2nd hand compaq a couple of years ago for my daughter. Num lock was off by default and I couldn't get into the BIOS to change it. Finally found the files for the BIOS on the compaq site, downloaded them, reformatted (they have to go on the drive FIRST) and now we have one. For futher info check out this post: pressf1.co.nz |

| 66525 | 2002-07-29 12:27:00 | On Compaq Servers ROM Based setup on newer models is F9. This may apply to laptops as well. Cheers, Ecko |

| 66526 | 2002-07-31 05:45:00 | The time to enter the "Whatever" key for Compaqs is while a white square block is showing in the top right-hand corner of the screen. I have seen F10 (most common) F9, F12, Ctrl/Alt/Esc. However, this is a new machine. May I gently suggest: "Read the ... manual"? :D |
