66376 2002-07-29 06:15:00 Whenever i start Windows explorer the, in the left pane where the folders are displayed together with my computer,my network places, recycle bin. Well whenever it starts 'My docmunets folder' is displayed expanded in the left pane and contents on the right pane.

I want the 'My computer' to be displayed expanded by default and My documnets not expanded(with that + sign on the left) so i can just click easily onto my drives without first collapsing my ducuments and then clicking on 'My Computer"

I went thru folder options but couldnt set this view setting. The OS is Win XP. Can someone tel me how to do this.

Cheers

66377 2002-07-29 08:41:00 when you launch windows explorer from a shortcut, right click on the shortcut and select "properties"

The expander tags are on the "Target" command line after "explorer.exe"

Mine is here: (windows XP, your mileage may vary)

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e

That expands the C:\

66378 2002-07-29 09:21:00 Many Thanxx GF,
I didnt know i could do that using switches.

Although when i use that, the E: drive expands (theres 3 drives on the system) rather than 'My Computer'. The e: drive has the OS.

The focus is on E drive. I would love to have the focus on 'My Computer' i.e expand 'My Computer' instead of E drive. If you can give the switch on that, it would be great.

But using the /e switch is nevertheless great as well. Thankxx,
I am saving myself two clicks now :D :D

66379 2002-07-29 09:23:00 just put the c: drive in before the switches, take a note of what you have first, then play around with it. You cant hurt it... godfather (25)
66380 2002-07-29 09:32:00 alternatively, if you have a later model keyboard hit <Windows key>E (windows key between ctrl and alt at bottom left of keyboard and the E key)to open windows explorer. Faster and it opens unexpanded. Heather P (163)
66381 2002-07-29 11:04:00 It does open unexpanded but its slower than the click of mouse.
The Win Explorer sits on my Quick launch bar and hence is only one click away. The use of keyboard requires my 2 fingers which is bit slower and i am not very keen on that ;)

GF, i tired the combinations and it didnt work. Actually i ran into bit of prob as IE/Win Exp started opening minimized for some peculiar reason. I had to edit the Run as: Maximized to stop this

But i get error messages(path does not exist or is not a directory) using:
C:/e
/eC:
C: /e
/e C:

i even tried in CAPS.

66382 2002-07-29 11:29:00 The syntax for additional switches is:

EXPLORER.EXE [/n,] [/e,] [options] [folder]

eg explorer.exe /e, f: (note the COMMA) its all case InSenSiTive

If you need more, look it up in google there will be plenty of examples

66383 2002-07-29 12:06:00 Well thankx gf, finally it works!!
I used this:
/e,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

Have no idea how this mumbo jumbo works but it works!!

:)

66384 2002-07-29 22:39:00 gf, everything is running fine except for this prob which just cropped up now.

Now when i open IE either from Start menu or quick launch. it opens fine and i can browse, but as soon as i click on some link and it opens in a new window, the new IE window opens minimized!!

i checked shortcut to open as normal window and maximized but still the prob exists. How can i get rid of this.

thank you

66385 2002-07-29 23:45:00 Dont think its related to the windows explorer problem, when you say it opens minimized do you mean only the takbar indicates a new window? or do you mean it opens in a smaller window.

If its a smaller window, close all windows, then open one window, drag it out to full screen (don't just press the middle button in the top right corner) by putting the top left window corner into the top left corner of the screen, and then drag the bottom right corner diagonally until it's the right size. Then, close it.
The next window you open will be as big as the one you last closed.
For some reason, IE6 sometimes only remembers the windows that you sized manually, not the ones you clicked the square icon to maximize.

Its also likely that some nasty code on a website has altered you registry, but have no idea where, you would need to search google.
