66317 2002-07-30 05:05:00 As far as I know cookies only allow you to be recognised by the site.

Wouldnt be surprised if the actual password is in the pwl file, but if you have changed your log-in then a new pwl will have been created and all old passwords *shouldnt* be available.

Afterall you could be a new user!

Just dont trust Bill that much....and cookies can be read by the site, so hardly think a password would be in there??

That would be correct Susan. Try emptying your cookies (or using Spider). Then come back to PressF1 and you'll have to log in again.

66319 2002-07-30 06:07:00 Noting the last exchange, I think cookies and passwords both may be necessary for some sites. For instance when I go to my online banking site they not only insist on a cookie being deposited, but before I can logon they also need a username and password. Perhaps that's not a good example because they do not offer the option of saving the name and password, but some other sites do and one does not need to enter these every time - I rather thought that it was the latter that are stored in a .pwl file.

BTW, who is Bill?

66321 2002-07-30 06:34:00 Bill is Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft. You are right about cookies AND passwords, thats what I was alluding to. The passwords for sites are *probably* stored in the pwl file, they wont be in the cookies. godfather (25)
66322 2002-07-30 10:04:00 Yes that would be correct.

It will be stored in the pwl file if it is one of those dialogue boxes that appears asking if you would like your password saved.

But the info is stored in a cookie in the case of the PressF1 autologin.
