66273 2002-07-29 00:04:00 An earlier version of PowerDefrag actually allowed the Scandisk function to operate even though it was not supposed to.

After a short search, this version can still be downloaded from the Simtel program archives. Note this site is NOT disreputable, it is one of the oldest most respectable free/shareware sites.

Get it from:
www.simtel.net

Click on the underlined file pwrdef20.exe. and eventually you can decide which mirror site to download from. I chose Australia a short while ago. I installed on an old test bed machine and it works as I said.
The only part of Scandisk that doesnt go is the option to do a surface scan.

Get it whilst you can.

Cheers.

I was looking forward to using it too. :(

66276 2002-07-29 21:53:00 Sparkys' right Mike, PowerDefrag is just for Win9x, and maybe ME. I didnt make clear in the post that I was refering to PowerDefrag 2.0 Lite, unregistered, the crippled trial ware version, not the full version one pays for.

Cheers

I quite liked PowerDefrag when I used it with ME - I cannot stand the defrag bundled with XP... PowerDefrag brought my defrag times down and down - with XP my Defrags are way up around the several hour mark :( doesn't matter how frequently I use it

Mike.
