66749 2002-07-30 08:57:00 I am about to upgrade to XP Pro. So that the transition goes as smoothly as possible, I would love some info from those who have already done this upgrade.
1. Does XP have a problem with AGP video cards (Nvidia/vanta) during the install process. I've heard they do.
2. I have a conexant softK56 PCI modem Do I need to have the Russian version XP drivers to stop speaker sound after connection have heard the English version still has data sound after connection.
3.And any other issues I might encounter.
Thanks for your time.

66750 2002-07-30 09:12:00 i'm no XP pro so here goes....

download the XP drivers for the video card before you install. you also may want the refresh rate fix sometime(not critical unless you play games)

modem..... find make, model and download drivers.

make sure all programs you will install are XP compatiable. do a clean install if at all possible, its less problematic.

66751 2002-07-30 09:16:00 I have had no problems at all.

check the XP dirvers for all you bits.

DONT upgrade (i only hear bad stuff about upgrading)
do a full format and reinstall. (you best chance of making it work right.)

I've had no problem installing XP with my AGP card (NVidia/TNT2)... dunno about the Vanta though.

Don't upgrade, install fresh (you can use the upgrade disk, but select the format option during install).

1. I upgraded from ME to XP Pro with no problems from my Nvidia GeForce mx 400.

2. There were a few of us where the conexant driver caused noise problems with XP Pro and we had to use a generic driver from fujitsu, on the disk. Solved.

God luck.

66754 2002-07-31 04:46:00 Why would you want to upgrade to a bloated system that requires activation and is full of bugs and is incompatible with older hardware Windows 2000 is a leaner more stable system that has been out for a few years now so has the drivers and most bugs ironed out personally I am happy with 98 sec edition it does all I want from it and is fast and doesnt slow down my PC. kiwibeat (304)

where are the bugs? I've been looking, but can't find them...

so, soon to be out of date?

What's your personal experience with XP, Kiwibeat?

Gosh, I must have missed them - where are they? Damn! I always miss out!

The XP kernel is essentially the W2K one, but the rest of it improves on it.
IMHO, but Ive only got 3 installations on widely differing hardware...

Perhaps the fact I save a few hours per week now, not having to sort out silly issues more than paid for all upgrades in the first month?
