66730 2002-07-30 08:51:00 i've just seen the price list for them.

200 gigs of hardrive pleasure will set you back well over $1000 each. anyone want to put two of them in RAID0 ?

btw price list had 8meg cache version which western digital site doesn't say they make.

could anyone actully fill up one of those? how would you do backups? 300+ cd's?

66731 2002-07-30 09:04:00 200GB is more than i could ever use. even with all my MP3's :-)

as for backup i would get a BIG tape back up system swap tapes a lot.

or DVD writer??

just think in 18 months you will be able to get 400GB at that price :-)

66732 2002-07-30 09:25:00 It's ideally for BIG servers with database and stuff. but 200gig.........i reckon it's a bit too big. boom23 (176)
66733 2002-07-30 09:27:00 when they gonna give us hd based video recorders? wotz (335)
66734 2002-07-30 09:31:00 Hard drive VCR's are on the market in USA.

I beleve thay are called "tivio" or some such.

40Gb hard drives in a box that can record 20 or more hours....

I gather that you can get them in some other parts of the world dont know about NZ

66735 2002-07-30 09:47:00 caning a file sharing prog on a cable modem, i could bring in forty something gig/ month (so i am told) so it would take over 4 months before i would feel twitchy and need another one!

I remember when 13gig seemed big

66738 2002-07-30 10:42:00 I could fill one of those up.

Let me see, oggs and mp3s at higher bitrates... or just store the whole CD and be done with it.

Keep images of all my CDs on the harddrive and run them virtually so that it is faster.

When the space is there, you will always find a way to fill it up.

Oh and ofcourse one of my longtime plans. To have an overly large bootmenu.

Windows XP
Windows 2000
Windows ME
Windows 98
Windows 95
Windows 3.11
Windows 1.0
Mandrake
Redhat
Debian
Gentoo
OpenBSD
NetBSD
FreeBSD
BeOS

66739 2002-07-30 10:50:00 I have seen someone get a boot menu with:

dos 6.22
win 3.11
windows nt4.0 server
windows 95
windows 98
windosws 2000
redhat 5.0

he tells me that the order of install is super important :-)
