67165 2002-08-01 00:36:00 Need some help please, I'm using Windows XP Pro. I want to publish a file and a folder to the web but no sure what to do. In the help menu it said to do the following...

"To publish pictures and documents to the Web
Open My Documents, and then open the folder containing the picture or document you want to publish to the Web.
Click the picture or document you want to publish to the Web, and then, under File and Folder Tasks, click Publish this file to the Web.
Follow the instructions in the Web Publishing Wizard."

I have not been able to find the 'File and Folders Tasks' option so cannot start the wizard. Seraching for the 'web page wizard' in the Help menu does not bring up the wizard either. I already have my ftp details and web space but because it is free space there is no help with ftp transfers. Help!! Thanks :-)

67166 2002-08-01 00:52:00 look at the help for "file and folder tasks"
That will tell you what to do, you need to have the correct view enabled, it tells you how.

Better off to use one of the many free FTP programs though, and upload it with that. Search at www.google.co.nz for a selection

67167 2002-08-01 02:08:00 Not using XP I can only make suggestions. Are they refering to the menu item "File" up in the toolbar at the top of the page? Heather P (163)
67168 2002-08-01 02:13:00 No Heather, if you click on the "x" in the left hand pane of explorer in XP, (yes, there is one) then it disappears and another menu is underneath which has the "file tasks" thing on it. Tells you in good simple language how to see it if you ask help for "file tasks..." otherwise you wouldnt find it. godfather (25)
67169 2002-08-01 02:24:00 The only cross (x) that I can see closes the folder view in windows explorer? The other X is on the top right that closes the window? Still not sure how to find 'file tasks'. The help menu doesn't assist either. Still unsure :-( PressF1 User (1065)
67170 2002-08-01 02:24:00 Well if you get stuck with XP try WSFTP_LE available at: tucows.ihug.co.nz

67171 2002-08-01 02:34:00 Thanks Heather but I would still like to use what I have included (when I find it!!) with Windows XP Pro. I realise there are a whole host of FTP programs out there but me not being able to find my own ftp program that came with XP has got me totally mystified. Still confused :-) PressF1 User (1065)
67172 2002-08-01 03:19:00 Well, a bit busy and was hoping to avoid the step by step . But . . .

I run XP

My windows explorer (NOT Internet Explorer) has two panes, folders on the left and folders/files on the right .

There is a X at top right, dont touch that one now .

At the divider between the 2 panes, near the middle of the screen and in the top right hand corner of the LEFT pane is a small X

Click it .

This makes the left hand pane disappear to leave a different view, an one with the option you are looking for on the left hand side .

Again, searching in Help for "files and folders tasks" gives clear instructions on my PC, what do you get?

67173 2002-08-01 03:43:00 Thanks for you instructions Godfather.

In my Windows Explorer the only crosses that I have are (1) when the 'folders' icon is clicked and shows what is on the C drive, the left folder tree (2) The x on the top right that closes the main windows explorer window. There are definately no other crosses anywhere to be found? There is no other view shown when I close the folders view by clicking on the x? I am using XP Pro in 'classic view'. the help menu that I have says how to get to folders view (refer earlier post) but it does not link to the actual wizard so I am still at a loss as to how I should do this. I have even clicked the 'customize' button on the toolbar to see if there are any options there but there isn't. Still searching.
Oh and Godfather - I respect the family :-)

67174 2002-08-01 03:57:00 Was web pulishing actually installed? In Win98SE it wasn't by default. You could check for it along the following lines (remember, I use Win98 so the paths could be slightly different)

Start
Settings
Control Panel
Add/Remove programs
Windows Setup
and Web publishing wizard is under Internet Tools
