| 67092 | 2002-07-31 22:12:00 | Hi there Just wanting to enquire which of XP Prof and Home Ed is better for games generally? Or are they much the same as each other? |

| 67093 | 2002-07-31 22:38:00 | Many would say (98SE users) that none are, but I use XP for business and it is so far ahead of the rest... Basically they both (XP pro and Home) share the same kernel, Pro has a lot of file security features that are not needed in a home environment, and its very likely that they would slow it down if not de-activated (assuming they can all be). If you dont need advanced security and multi-level permissions on file acess thengo for the Home edition. |

If you like to take complete control of you OS or PC, pro edition would be the one you want but it's more expensive though. Once you start to gaming then you'll want to tweak your pc and settings, etc and that's when pro edition can provide all that. With home edition, there's not much you can tweak. Hum, come to think of it, pro edition might be a little better in terms of gaming since you can tweak a lot of hidden settings and registries, but this is my opinion anyway. | boom23 (176) | ||

I strongly suspect Pro allows you to turn them OFF, but as they are not in home edition, you cannot turn them ON anyway. e.g.file security. Turning all the options OFF could make pro faster, as fast as Home in all probability - now, why was Pro bought again?? |
