67431 2002-08-01 23:41:00 Hi, I have started getting a box popping up when I open some sites saying "To display this page corectly you need to download and install the following components-Java virtual machine " Then it has two buttons "download" or "cancel". Pressing cancel makes the box disappear and the page seems to load ok but sometimes it just closes itself.
Can I safely download this? It is coming up for me on nzoom.com (plus loads of other sites) which I have as my homepage but it wasn't popping up like this a couple of weeks ago.

Hi Abby,

Yes, you can safely download this - it is a plugin type tool for your browser that allows certain things to be displayed to "enhance your web experience". :) Many people choose not to install this as it can allow malicious scripts to be run on your computer, but this generally will only happen if you go to suspect sites to start with, which if you do, then its your own fault anyway. If you don't go to the suspect sites, then you're quite safe in downloading and installing it. I do believe that you can turn it off once its downloaded anyway (which will mean it acts much the same as it does now, but if you're that security concious, then the option is there).

HTH

Mike.

Thanks
