67948 2002-08-03 23:40:00 Have two problems

1. the launch bar has suddenly due to something I did doubled in height - I can increase the heigth using the doudle arrows but cannot decrease it to the original size - I only can remove it completely.

2. On start up I get box headed network connections which has teh message " you ( or a program ) has requested information from www.yahoo.com . Whisch connection do you want to use "
How do I get rid of this box ?

67949 2002-08-04 01:40:00 Start bar is puzzling...

Computer wanting to dial means you have an application configured to contact yahoo, and it must be running at startup.

Go start-run-type "msconfig" press enter.

Look at startup, see what applications are running.

It may be msmessenger, if you dont use it then stop it from running by removing the tick.

Next time you boot you will get a message asking if you want to run the utility everytime you start, so say no.

Other than that you may have adware or spyware running, try running adaware (www.lavasoft.de) to identify and eliminate.

67950 2002-08-04 05:23:00 As far as the start bar goes, you have probably put the taskpane beneath the quicklaunch pane. This creates two levels in the start bar, and thus you cannot reduce the size below this. Unlock the taskbar (you obviously know how to resize) and grab the textured area beside where the programs show up when open (open one if you need to). Drag the textured area to the far right and release. Now rexize the taskbar, and then drag the textured area back to the left to align it beside the quicklaunch bar.

This should fix your problem. To stop from accidentally doing this again, right-click on an empty area of the taskbar and select Lock Taskbar. This prevents rearranging of the taskbar. Remember to unlock the taskbar before you try to change things in the future.

If you don't understand these (tricky) instructions, or they do not solve your problem, just reply to this post.

THanks for that - after trying everything and suddenly succeeding I now have my original launch bar back
But thanks for the information as I have stored it away for future reference
