How many files do you want to back up? A full backup - address book, favourites, templates, my documents or a selected few files? |

| 67556 | 2002-08-02 06:28:00 | Windows has always included a backup utililty (at least up till 98). Go to start; help and type "backup". A couple of things with backups. 1. Once you have created backups spot check them to make sure they will restore (after creation restore a couple of files to check it's working) 2. Rotate your media. A friend once used one floppy to backup a critical file. The file got corrupted and guess what? So was his backup copy. Ever seen anyone go really white? Fortunately he discovered that quite by accident he'd used a different disk earlier in the week - and that one was OK. So if you are backing up to zip disks - use at least 2 and rotate them. A business should use more than 2. If you are a business use 4 disks marked Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs for incremental backups. 4 disks for full back ups on Fridays. 3 monthly disks for end of month and an annual disk. Also, store them off site. |
