67540 2002-08-02 05:12:00 I am running win98 on a TLS computer celeron 333, 128 ram.I recently installed a network card (DSE PCI adaptor card ethernet) and found that windows takes ages to boot up, hanging after the first windows splash screen appears. If I take the network card out , all seems ok again.Any ideas ???? lark (1313)

The network software is trying to find other hosts on the network, and might be trying to find DNS servers etc. If there aren't any, this will slow you down. It is very patient about this. It waits a long time before giving up.

67542 2002-08-02 05:48:00 Try configuring it to a static IP Address
Right-click on Network Neighbourhood
find TCP/IP - YOU NIC CARD
Click Properties
Now configure it so it has a ststic IP Address and not automatically configured on boot. Something like:
192.168.0.2 would do
That should speed things up a fair bit

67543 2002-08-02 06:06:00 This is where Windows is searching for the network it is connected to. If it's not connected to a network it is going to take a while to boot up.

I suggest that if the network card is not being used that you disable it in the Device Manager this will then let it boot up quicker.
