67851 2002-08-04 07:52:00 Hi Terry,

The latest Eudora (sponsored) version does have a "check outgoing mail by AVG" option.

We use the free AVG.

Cheers, Antonia

67852 2002-08-04 08:12:00 Thanks Antonia, I did get around to checking the Grisoft site and it mentioned Eudora was supported, should've looked there first.

I have used an english language version of a Chinese email program called Foxmail since Win 3.1 days, updated of course. It's very good, in fact an excellent program, but not recognised by AVG unfortunately.

Have a look here (download.com.com). I've just downloaded it and given it a go. It seems quite nice so far and is free. It will also not be targeted the same by viruses.

Also it does have the ability to check hotmail accounts.

67855 2002-08-04 09:25:00 You can also get it from the Foxmail homepage at:
fox.foxmail.com.cn

I have used it since the 16 bit version for Win 3.1, before in fact MS had any internet programs, at the time when they said the internet would never catch on :)

I moved through to the 32 bit version 2.1 for Win9x, and am now using version 4.1

I think it really nice. Version 2.1 was extremely simple to use, and fitted on a floppy, but 4.1 has more bells and whistles.

It's worth playing with to see if you like it.

Cheers

67856 2002-08-04 09:38:00 BTW, Foxmail 2.1 can still be downloaded from various sites, it's 519KB in zipped format. It runs from its own directory and doesnt require installation as such, nor does it add any entries to the registry. I said it was simple.

This is one site it can be downloaded from:

67857 2002-08-04 09:44:00 Terry, Had a look at the site but it doesn't say if it works on XP. Will it? Thanks Poppa John Poppa John (284)
67858 2002-08-04 10:22:00 Hello PJ, looking at the system requirements in the Help for Foxmail 4.1, yes it will run on Windows XP, also Win9x, NT, ME, 2000. So it looks pretty versatile from that point of view.

Cheers

67859 2002-08-04 14:34:00 Thanks Terry,

I have been using Incredimail, but learned last week that there are some
security holes in it.

Just downloaded Foxmail v4.1 and set it up.Looks good at moment but not sure that I will need all the "bells&whistles"?

Thanks again & Cheers,Kiwitas,;-)

67860 2002-08-04 21:39:00 Glad you like Foxmail Kiwitas, Im not sure really if it does have 'bells and whistles', it just seemed like it after version 2.1.
What I did like after discovering the feature, was the ability to set up your own email templates for composing, replying, forwarding etc.

What it seems to lack, but which version 2.1 had, is the easy ability to add or not, by a tick box, the original message when replying. It seems separate reply templates need to be used for that feature, no great hardship though.
