You know too much about DOS, PCs etc to not be a fossil. ;-) > While I'm on here... do you know of anyone (else) > using Mozilla browser, particularly on WinXP? Er... what's the catch? Or maybe I should say what's the prize if I do? OK, it had better be a good one - JM uses Mozilla sometimes but he's got Win ME. There, hand it over. > Here kitty kitty... nice babe gots some lovely red > meat for you.... cat turns sticks out tongue.. > spits.. snarls.. and backs off into the corner with > open-pawed claws.... yeooww I think Kitty likes you. :D |

| 67736 | 2002-08-06 22:28:00 | Leo, Not sure if you have also tried the following: its sounds like it's time for some system spring cleaning . SPOOL32's job is to spool the print jobs to disk so as to quickly free up the application(s) . If you have LOTS of temporary files under C:\Windows\TEMP or other temporary areas (e . g . C:\TEMP, etc . ) you WILL have problems printing and you may start getting problems installing software etc . At some point Windows runs out of ideas on creating and naming temporary files (files that may start with a '~' (tilde) and or end with ' . tmp') hence start having issues . . . ************************************************** ****** Try: 1 . Boot your PC into SAFE mode - this ensures very little is started in the Windows sense . See SafeModeBoot_FAQ ( . co . nz/thread . jsp?forum=1&thread=21833#58781" target="_blank">pressf1 . co . nz) 2 . Within Explorer, clean out the 'temp' folder(s) (SHOULD be safe to delete all the files and folders within that temp directory{folder}) See DeleteTempFiles_FAQ ( . co . nz/thread . jsp?forum=1&thread=21793#58441" target="_blank">pressf1 . co . nz) 3 . Run SCANDISK to repair any FAT/FAT32 disk problems . START | Programs | Accessories | System Tools | ScanDisk 4 . Run DEFRAG to defragment the files and directories on your harddrive . START | Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk Defragmentor Finally reboot your PC . NOTE: the above Scandisk / Defrag process may take a while to complete After rebooting the PC see if the issue has gone away . ************************************************** ****** Also you can try the following: Disable Enhanced Metafile (EMF) spooling for your printer by following these steps: a . Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers . b . Right-click your {XYZ} printer, and then click Properties . c . Click the Details Tab, and then click Spool Settings . d . In the Spool Data Settings box, click RAW . e . Click OK, and then click OK again . ************************************************** ****** Post back when you have been through these processes Cheers, Babe . |

| 67742 | 2002-08-09 09:54:00 | Leo, I have sent you an email with an attached Winzip file with an updated spoolss . dll (spooler dynamic link library) file and a ReadMe text file inside . The following is the text of the readme: (NOTE: This Spool32 Invalid Page Fault error fix is for Windows98/98SE ONLY and is NOT guaranteed to work for YOU) FIRST: Use the WinZip program to unzip the Windows ME system spool dynamic link library file from the ZIP file (SPOOLSS_DLL . ZIP) to the hard drive folder C:\NUSPOOLSS(note this is NOT a mistake, basically we are going to replace the Win98/98SE spools dll file with the WinME one) NEXT: * The easiest way to update the SPOOLSS . DLL on a Win98 box is to use the System File Checker . * Click Start | Run | type in SFC and click OK * From within SFC select "Extract One File From Disk" * Type SPOOLSS . DLL in the filename box and click Start * In the "Restore From" box type the location of the SPOOLSS . DLL that you extracted the file from the zipfile (i . e . . C:\NUSPOOLSS) * The "Save File In" box should say C:\Windows\System (If you have installed Windows in a different folder than C:\Windows then replace that part of the path name with your folder . ) * This will prompt you to backup the old file to the C:\WINDOWS\Helpdesk\SFC folder Click OK * A message box may come up "The backup folder does not exist create it" Click YES * Click OK to "File Successfully Extracted" message * Click CLOSE on the SFC main window * Restart the computer . FINALLY: REBOOT and TEST . . . Cheers, Babe . |
