67599 2002-08-03 03:09:00 Who let those rabid dogs off?

I didn't realise how addicted I was to PressF1 till now LOL. As everything else seemed to be working OK, even deleted my desktop shortcut, as I thought it might have been corrupted.

Oh well, had a pleasant evening playing Midtown Madness. Even got to unlock the Panoz Roadster GTR-1

Glad we're back. Thanks James, and Bruce who was harassed by me.

67602 2002-08-03 09:57:00 Ummmmmmmm...........................Susan might well be right :8}

You see, I was about to post WFTWE when there was a momentary power dropout causing my Jetstream connection to disconnect (I don't have my router running off my UPS you see). Anyway, the router rebooted, I posted WFTWE, then there was another power fluctuation and I found I couldn't check my post.

I assume that Press F1 went off the air at about that time. If it's any consolation, Sky Tower lost half their lights at the same time. There were several more power dropouts over the following hour then everything was back to normal, except for Press F1 unfortunately. :(

Of course it may have just been a bad case of "server aboulia" (inability to make a decision) and it couldn't make up its mind what to do.?:|

Cheers

67603 2002-08-03 11:34:00 So are you saying that whoever crashed the server took out other stuff as well.

Or the person that crashed the server just happened to strike at the right time making them look innocent.

Strange the way the other IDG sites were working though.

Well that's okay then - I was seriously worried that it was something I did (nothing to do with my test posts, but a couple of minutes later I tried something, and ever since then I couldn't get in :)), but now I think it probably wasn't me, so I won't get kicked off for good!

Mike. <very relieved >

67605 2002-08-04 07:42:00 So it's just an Auckland thing then Billy T? :p Elwin Way (229)
67606 2002-08-04 09:27:00 Hi Elwin

Jokes about crashing Press F1 aside, we did have a series of Auckland-only power hiccups on Black Friday Night, and one did coincide closely with Press F1 going down (and my post of WFTWE). However, I can't imagine that IDG run their servers without power protection so it must have been one of "those things" that happen from time to time in the best regulated of circles.

Failing that it was Mike's fault.

Cheers
