68247 2002-08-05 06:09:00 I have a PC which has a very noisey 'air conditioning' system.
I have never heard such a noisey PC. Is it the power supply to blame?
The noise is just a fan/air noise....not a bearing noise and has been the same since day 1 - about 12 months ago. Had it checked but nothing the suppliers can do.
PS The PC is a PC Company Model running an Athalon Processor

68248 2002-08-05 06:15:00 Nothing sounds better than a quiet PC....

Had a similar noisy fan, from new. Replacement fan was just the same.

It was in a cowling that blew air over the CPU heatsink. It was more the nature of the housing that made the noise, not the fan.

The fans are 12v "brushless" which means they have on-board electronics to switch the current, to produce the rotating magnetic field. It certainly wont be the power supply to the fan that causes the noise.

I replaced the heatsink with one which had an internal fan, now you barely hear it running...bliss!

CPU temp is only 5 degrees above ambient normally.

68249 2002-08-05 06:28:00 depends on what you call noisy. what you hear could be just normal, or it could have faulty fan, cable rubbing against the fan etc.

if you really want to get it quiet you will need a new case. pccompany pc's run really hot as standard and to get it cool and quiet will require new case and fans.

what ever you do DO NOT INSTALL SLOWER FANS in the standard case, it will cook it.
