68191 2002-08-04 23:30:00 Quad = 4

You are referring to a 4 channel sound card

68192 2002-08-04 23:33:00 Jams, What sound card model/type etc and which operating system, version etc are you running. Quadraphonic is a 4-channel medium. Babe Ruth (416)
68193 2002-08-04 23:34:00 yeah i know what quad is.

i just wanted to know how to find out if my card supports it??
Jams (1051)
68194 2002-08-04 23:35:00 i have a VIA AC'97 Sound card with Windows 2000 Jams (1051)
68195 2002-08-04 23:56:00 I suspect you dont have a "sound card" at all, but a chipset on your motherboard?

Philips make an AC97 compliant sound card that supports Quad.

If its Quad you can connect 4 speakers - can you?
Its also probable that Quad is supported on surround sound 5.1 systems
(2 front speakers, 2 rear speakers, 1 centre front and 1 bass speaker)

How many speakers have you got???
godfather (25)
68196 2002-08-05 00:07:00 i have only 2 speakers at the moment.

my sound chip has three ports. input, output and Microphone.

68197 2002-08-05 00:58:00 Sounds like a bog standard system, unlikely to offer quad as an option godfather (25)
68198 2002-08-05 01:27:00 ok thanx 4 ur help.

but what is the input port used for if there is already another microphone port?? i have the speakers in the output.
Jams (1051)
68199 2002-08-05 01:37:00 2 levels of input - mic is a microphone, the other is line input, typicall 1v p-p and matches line out on cd players, and the like. Usually not used. godfather (25)
