1308285 2012-10-23 05:04:00 Hi,
I have been trying to help a friend to get her Yahoo mail on Win Live Mail.
It says it can do it only if the Yahoo mail is the pro account, which she does not have.
Is there a workaround for this at all?

1308286 2012-10-23 05:06:00 I take it that means you need the Pro account for POP support, in which case you'll have to get a Pro account.

Yahoo

1308287 2012-10-23 05:20:00 One way since you would need a Pro account the other way. Setup the live mail to what shes wanting now, then log into yahoo and forward all the mails to the new account. No reason it wont work unless shes wanting to use Yahoo and live mail at the same time. wainuitech (129)

I have tried to set up Win Live mail to receive her Yahoo mail and it will not work. Win Live Mail just says it will not do it. I have tried ypops but that says there is a missing dll. I thiink at this stage the only thing to do is putl an icon on her desktop that will open her Yahoo mail directly. Trouble is, she would like to use Win Live Mail.

I am so over MS being such a put off! almost as bad as crapple.

Ah, MS says it does support "Yahoo and many others" mail being downloaded to Win Live Mail, but it doesn't say it won't support Yahoo free, only the Plus version, till the very last minute. Your comment was not helpful.

Its not Microsoft stopping it, its yahoo free account causing the problem, seems only the paid option will allow this.

To quote Yahoo:

The ability to access Yahoo! Mail using an email reader program such as Outlook, Eudora, or Thunderbird is only available to customers of our premium Yahoo! Mail Plus service. This will be the same for Windows Live mail.

If she has a xtra account it will work fine - But the free yahoo :( nope.

Edited: just opened up my yahoo account after god knows how many years, still works -- just a "few" mails there. Tried windows live mail settings as supplied by yahoo, and no go, wont connect - (not really surprised)

No surprise there ;) Just about all email clients say things like that. MS are telling the truth, it will work with a paid yahoo account - But its Yahoo causing the restrictions. Its even listed on the yahoo site as I quoted.

Ok, thanks for clarifying that Wainuitech. I will tell her it is a no go then, and she will just have to accept it.
