| 1285121 | 2012-07-10 02:43:00 | Update ... Orcon did some tests, and agreed the performance (2.2) was not up to scratch. They muttered things about Cabinets and Telecom and increased demands etc etc. Upshot is they'll move me to an Xtra connection at no cost within the next week, and that should fix the problem. Don't ask me the technicalities, I don't know. But top marks to Orcon, I'll keep you posted. We had trouble with Orcon when we were moved to ADSL2 - the sync speeds were great (15-18mbit) but download throughput was down around 2-3mbit. Turned out we were on a long distance profile, they've since changed that and download throughput speeds are back up well over 10mbit where they should be. Took a heap of mucking around to get them to look that far into it though. (To the point of "There IS something wrong with our connection, it's not the line or the modem, do you really want us to change to Snap?") That worked though. :p |

| 1285127 | 2012-07-10 11:58:00 | How do i check this speed thingy??? link to that please? scrap that found it........... www.speedtest.net why does it say server in napier? when i in wanga's? Because the Americans don't know where Wanganui is. You are with Telecom and I think your server is in Auckland. It says my server is in Auckland but it is in Wellington. :) It says server in Napier because Napier will be the location of the server that you're testing your connection on. If you tested your speed to a server in New York it would say "Server in New York" It has nothing to do with where you live and have your connection or where your ISP is. For example, here is one where I just tested mine in Bangkok: www.speedtest.net Of course the speed is much worse than my actual speed because I was not using a server in New Zealand, that's why it tries to find the server closest to you, to give you the most accurate readout. If you choose one far away, it will usually be wrong. |
