1308766 2012-10-29 21:06:00 So what does this tell you?
MS aren't doing any validation that you are in fact upgrading a machine that was bought recently, to qualify for the cheaper $19.99 upgrade, and they also don't check that you are in fact running a legal copy of windows in the first place.
Looks like they want to get as many people as possible onto win8.
I discovered likewise. As mentioned I even setup a copy of Win7 on my spare PC just for the cause and then used the RemoveWAT tool just to see if it'd care. Nope, the Upgrade Advisor didn't mind in the slightest!

It only has English (UK) in the top box but you can select English (New Zealand) in the second box.
Yeah I found that too. Not sure how much it matters really, but I previously would always select English (NZ) in both boxes when it came to Win7 / WinXP etc....

1308767 2012-10-29 21:14:00 My copy of Windows 7 only had US English for the top box as well, I'm pretty sure... pcuser42 (130)
1308768 2012-10-29 21:17:00 I think the first box, that only has English (UK), is just the display language of Windows so here in NZ we don't need any other option.
You can download and install more display languages for English (US), Chinese etc if you want to.

1308769 2012-10-30 01:00:00 Right O-- :crying I give up as to why this Upgrade wont work correctly from a fresh install like others say it has :waughh:

Tried again this morning, completely different PC, Different hardware and CPU ( this time it was a AMD)

Exact same thing happened - Fresh install didn't work/activate.

Yet after wiping the drive clean again, installing the original W7 HomePre, and running the W8 upgrade, it went perfectly, Windows UI Start menu on boot .

I'm doing Another customers PC later today, they purchased the Upgrade and want it installed. Have to save all their data, and install programs again, as their Vista is not exactly healthy.

1308770 2012-10-30 02:58:00 Yeah perfect time to clean out all the old "junk" if you ask me, fresh installs the best way :) Chilling_Silence (9)

1308772 2012-10-30 03:32:00 Mine (upgrade over W7) boots into the Win UI screen

Bit strange that the Upgd Assistant doesn't highlight Logitech Webcam software as problematical but says MS Office Starter is not supported. The former IS a problem and the latter seems to work just fine!

1308773 2012-10-30 03:41:00 My conclusion:

MS just pushed out Windows 8 when they are not actually READY.

For what reason, don't ask me!
