68440 2002-08-06 00:55:00 My favourite computer related segments in TV:

McGyver: An episode where a long shot shows him working at a Macintosh, but when they do the over the shoulder close-up the screen he is staring at is Windows 3.x :-)

The Rainbow Warrior mini-series: The bit where a US diplomat is shown standing behind his desk. On the desk is a Mac SE (or it's ilk). On the desk is a keyboard and mouse. However there are no cables whatsoever plugged into the Mac :-)

now there's a good movie.

What about Apollo 13? Its a good feeling to know that there is tons more computing power in my little old Gateway than what it took to send 3 men into space :)

68443 2002-08-06 07:20:00 Does the calculator Andy Dufraine used in Shawshank Redemption make that count??

IMHO it has to be very close to the best movie I have ever seen. I am shocking with movies, and cannot remember movies I have watched a month or so ago - I guess it's because I watch so many.

Nah, I know it doesn't count. I always go for a taste of beleivability in movies with computers for them to get my tick. If the movie itself wasn't so crap, and nokia and, lexus hadn' been blatantly plastered everywhere, the most inventive technolofy that was semi-believable would be Minority Report. (except of course for the ball-engraving pre-cogs).

For movie quality AND technology, I would be thinking possibly enemy of the state or some similar spy-type film.

There is more computing power in my wrist watch than in any Apollo ship :-)

68445 2002-08-06 07:39:00 Has your wristwatch got 32 kB of memory? A 32 bit wordlength? The space computers aren't that stupid. They didn't need much, because they didn't use Windows. Graham L (2)
68446 2002-08-06 07:40:00 I'd have to agree Graham Petrie. Shawshank Redemption is a very good movie.
I also like Escape from Alcatraz.

hmmmm, looks like I like prison movies or something, just not the bad kind.
