68936 2002-08-07 03:42:00 Hi people
I'm having trouble with error messages (eg: OE:0028:C0030610 ; OE: 0028: C0030BAB, amongst others) and have noted by using "System Monitor" that the kernel processor useage seems to climb to 100% and then "stick" there, prior/during the system crashes.
Is it usual for it (kernel useage) to jump up to 100% when opening applications before dropping back down?
I thought I had a system that wouldn't notice how much I was working on at the same time and indeed have not had any probs until about a week ago when these crashes started happening.
Specs are 9(as provided by BeLarc Advisor): Windows ME Build 4.90.3000
Processor: 1333 megahertz AMD Athlon
32 kilobyte primary memory cache
256 kilobyte secondary memory cache
Main Circuit Board: THEPCCOMPANY MS-6330
Bus Clock 133 megahertz
30 Gig HD (Rigel 7200 RPM)
384 RAM

I've got Norton Antivirus 2002 which is up to date and saying "no viruses"
Internal temperature: CPU - 43 degrees celsius
System Temp: 18 degrees celsius

Does any of this mean anything to anyone out there?

Oh, also - when I look under System Information/Components/Problem Devices - there's THIS written in the right hand window:
Device: ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering
PNP Device ID:ACPI\*PNP0C0F\00000003
Error Code:22

Now, what might THAT be?
(sigh - methinks this comp is due to go BACK to the techie shop....)
Cheers

68937 2002-08-07 03:57:00 What applications are you running?
How often does this happen?

Some applications are bad for not releasing resources, and 16 bit applications (older software) are often chronic in this regard, in my experience.

I ran 3 machines on Win ME, but if opening and closing a lot of apps I would reboot 4 times a day, then it was sweet and stable.

One particular legacy app would require a reboot as soon as I had used it however.

68938 2002-08-07 04:51:00 And what about this "ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering" Problem Device Entry in System Information Tool (support.microsoft.com). What is line 3 (the bulleted one) really trying to tell us ?:| . Babe Ruth (416)
68939 2002-08-09 08:46:00 ME is known to be very buggy it also has a useless restore program i disabled it and use Roxia Goback I prefer to use 98 sec edition which is far faster and leaner than ME kiwibeat (304)
68940 2002-08-09 09:04:00 I disabled "Restore" a few months back - never found it much use.
Actually, today I've d/l and executed a few programs in an attempt to suss out what was happening (trojan hunter/killers, and registry checkers/cleaners) and even though my system was pronounced clean in every respect, the computer has been chugging away about it's business multi tasking at about 28 - 30% cpu useage ever since(according to "System Monitor")
Dunno what I did, but it hasn't crashed for hours! For about the past week, I've been having to shut down totally every 3/4 of an hour or so to free up the cpu.
Got me beat...thanks for your comments! I'd love to hear from anyone else who's had something similar happen.
Cheers
