2002-08-08 08:03:00 | Beauty thanks Merlin. I was aware of Mr Excel but not the other one. Susan, yup I was aware CF can do a lot more than make alternate rows a different colour just an example. You could make a chess, draughts board easy enough if u wanted, and is good for highlighting things for others :-) Speaking of Bank Statements, folding them was probably my first job <showing age> and I always remember how my work-mates suddenly feeling a little bit ill when the first of the month came around hehe. Perhaps you could post some things you would like me to put in. I have thought of the following so far EXCEL 1) Copying formulas in large worksheets. Have you ever copied a formula to row 30,000 using the mouse? No more, with these shortcuts. 2) Breaking up data using left, right & mid functions 3) Avoiding #Name? Error when using vlookup etc 4) Ahem .. Conditional Formatting 5) How to calculate loan repayments amounts you will get the same answer as NZ banks! 6) How to put a carriage return in when typing text in a cell to get a line by line effect 7) Changing the default save as folder for Excel 8) Using format painter to copy formats 9) Selecting non-adjacent cells 10) Having the header row print on every page WORD 1) Inserting pictures so the appear where you want them 2) Did you know Word has its very own formulas? 3) Watermarks 4) Customising Normal.dot 5) Changing the default save as folder for Word 6) Macros ACCESS 1) Formatting the background colour of forms 2) Formulas 3) Input mask 4) Expression Builder 5) Compacting database or why is my Access file so big when I deleted everything? 6) Autonumbers and how they work 7) Using filters on forms 8) Macros Could make it a general "MS Office" thing and throw in Powerpoint as well. cheers Parry

2002-08-08 09:47:00 | Oh my, thanks for those links Merlin, I haven't seen those sites before. Now I feel like Babe in a licorice shop! :-) Parry, that is an excellent range of topics - yes please!! I probably know about half of the Excel and Word ones myself but others will no doubt be very grateful to learn them. The Access ones interest me very much too. Regarding calculating loan repayment amounts, is it possible to also have one that calculates interest on deposits as well? Particularly for those that calculate interest daily. Anyway, if you can do those that will be fantastic. :-)

2002-08-08 10:28:00 | Yes Susan it is possible to create things in Excel as you have asked. I should know I've spent a term doing Word and another doing Excel. It's Access at the moment.

2002-08-08 11:10:00 | Susan B, This site is very good for those wanting to know what programs are being started on their Win pc and what to do about it Win_Startup_Content (www.pacs-portal.co.uk) and Win_Startup_Full (www.pacs-portal.co.uk) Quote: "The intention of these pages is to provide a central resource for PC users and Tech Support staff alike who are concerned about the poor performance of their PCs due to the number of programs that run at system start-up. The following information is provided: * Background to the problem * Techniques that can be used to identify and disable start-up programs from running * A comprehensive list of programs that are loaded at start-up * A request for additional programs or updated information" Babe.

2002-08-09 02:31:00 | Thanks people. The list is pretty big so I will concentrate on just Excel first as it's the one I probably know best. I have thought of a few other things too. Perhaps make it a 3-4 part FAQ if the first one is well recieved ;-) You should like Access JM. It's a very powerful tool and can do so much but is a little harder to learn than Excel & Word. Im self taught in Excel, Access etc so it would have been nice to have had the "grounding" first, but hey. Im learning VBA at the mo (Excel & Access) plus VB as well. Incredibly handy and I wonder why I never bothered before. So cool when you make something for someone else to make their life easier.
