68909 2002-08-07 01:11:00 .I have tried to unsuccessfully open unzipped files in a program called "hulls"-a CAD design program. The error message I get is that there are no viewers registered for this type of file(the files are a text file described as ASCII character set and a file named MS windows program (16bit) linker v5.10 (.exe) described as visual basic 3.0 runtime library . I have downloaded VBrun60 and my OS is Win98. Any tips would be welcomed. jacko (1382)
68910 2002-08-07 01:16:00 what is the extension of the files you are trying to open, and what were they created on? godfather (25)
68911 2002-08-08 06:57:00 there are 3 file extensions I am trying to open.
.exe -error message is "error running program"
.dat -message is "no error" is displayed
.dll -no message displayed_this is a MS visual basic runtime version 3.00 file .
.vbx-nothing displayed.
The machine I am using is a P11350,plenty of disc space and 128mb memory.
The program is not "new " and apparently has been used on earlier Pentiums. Thanks for your time.

68912 2002-08-08 07:05:00 It looks as if you might not have all of the programme parts. Or it needed to be installed properly. If you have just a copy of a directory from another computer, it is almost certainly not worth wasting time on.

Another magazine (PC Authority) has a very good CAD package (Turbo CAD) on its cover CD this month. It is complete, and free --- there is a new version out.

68913 2002-08-09 04:53:00 Thanks for your advice. The program is specifically designed to plot a hard chine plywood boat hull and I am interested in opening and viewing all the designs noted in the site( www.carlson design.com) So I will persevere. I have loaded all the utilities and support files. The problem is that I cannot get hull.exe to open so it is an installation problem. jacko (1382)
68914 2002-08-09 05:27:00 It's probably a compiled BASIC programme, so it will need a runtime package (which you shouldn't "open" yourself ... it's a library of routines which are called by the programme (like the Windows DLLs) . If you are sure that you have the whole thing, it might be fussy about "where" components are. That is, it might want to have a directories called (e.g) HULL, HULL/BIN, HULL/DAT, etc. There might be things called "environment variables" which you need to set. Look very hard for any files with names/extensions like README, .TXT, .DOC, INSTALL. That's the best I can do, sorry. I guess that you're the only person at PressF1 who has ever seen this programme. ;-) Graham L (2)
