69490 2002-08-08 21:24:00 I have a Gateway Solo 2500 running Win98se. During the first couple of years of owning the computer there was no problem going into standby. When it goes into standby the screen goes blank, disk or the fan still operates for a period, the green led stays steady instead of blinking. To get it out of that state I have to restart the laptop by turning it off. I have been trying figure out what I have done differently for that to occur. In desperation I reformatted the disk and reloaded all the operating system software and other applications. on the advice of Gateway I have tried starting it up in protected mode and lo and behold when I put it into standby it operated fine. I can find no device conflicts that might account for the problems. Any advice would be appreciated as it is really useful to put it into standby when I am on battery.

Thanks

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that you've loaded some new software that doesn't like going into standby. Have you loaded any new software recently (demos or bought new software or whatever)? Then after the reformat you may have reinstalled that piece of new software, hence the problem continuing.

As soon as I discovered this, I ceased using standby and all problems disappeared.
