| 69255 | 2002-08-07 22:48:00 | i recently formatted an re-installed wiindows98 on my no 2 pc, and now i can't find my cd-rom! directly after install it was there but as soon as i re-booted it was gone! i can't see it in device manager, apart from that everything works fine. i can boot off my cd-rom tho wierd! any help would be awesome thanx |

You'll see it during the install if you booted from a CDROM boot disk, but if you didn't copy the VIA IDE drivers to the hard drive before installing you'll have to download them from the net. Otherwise, you can boot from a CDROM boot disk and copy the driver files over to the hard drive, and set them up through windows once you reboot. Best of luck, that particular VIA problem seems to have disappeared from the more recent boards, though maybe thats something to do with the OS evolution since 98... :) |

| 69259 | 2002-08-08 00:04:00 | thanks for the help! do u mean copy over the files thru dos? if yes, i'm not hugely proficient in the commands i have got the drivers and i zipped them up and copied them over from my new pc with a floppy, but every time i run the setup i get a registry error please reboot - so i reboot but still get the same message??? help! |
