2002-08-07 21:50:00 | A couple of days ago i decided to remove a program i installed not long before (Cliprex, if it has a meaning). After the uninstallation was completed i wanted to delete the directory that the uninstallation didn't remove. i got an error saying that they file in the directory couldn't be deleted because windows is using it, and since then all the problems began. some strange icons appeared on my desktop (only icons, no text beneath it), i couldn't run any program and when i "right clicked" on my desktop i got a different menu with only the "paste" command available. i pressed the paste and another file appered on my desktop "Rundll.exe". i cannot recall if it was a shortcut or not to the original file, but i couldn't delete it too. i decided to press the Reset button on my pc, so it'll restart the pc and won't save what just happend. ever since i can't load windows XP. every time i run the computer it shows me the black screen with the windows loading, and after that an aqua screen with two thick blue lines in the upper and lower side of it. in the middle i have windows xp logo. i tried to run windows in safe mode, tried to reboot it and run with last good working configuration and tried to repair it using the windows xp cd. nothing help. same screen appears every time. what should i do??! | oron_b (1391) | |
2002-08-07 22:03:00 | Have you tried to just reinstall Windows rather than do a repair. If that doesn't work and no one else can help you may need to reformat your Hard Drive :( A couple of other things, Do you have a virus scanner, if you do have you tried using the rescue disks that you may have made when you installed the software. If you don't have a virus scanner, you should probably get one I hope this helps :)

Can you access any critical data using a DOS boot disk? If so back it up and reinstall XP from scratch. |

2002-08-07 22:16:00 | i will format my hard disk only when i'll know there is no other option. i don't want to lose any information i have there which i didn't back-up. i have norton antivirus but i doubt if it can help me due the complicated problem. well, thanks for the help anyways, man :-)

2002-08-07 22:26:00 | Oh, i did try to use the DOS boot disk, but i couldn't access my main pratition (C:\). But i didn't try to deepen this solution. i'll try it again. anyways, i think i'll just take my HD to a friend and burn necessary files, format and install windows XP again. Thanks to all of you that tried to help me =)
