69796 2002-08-09 21:36:00 Hi

Our laptop has a DVD player but it will only play B/W when it is played through our TV with a S video cable. Any ideas would be great.

69797 2002-08-09 22:08:00 Look for settings somewhere NTSC - PAL - SECAM

Make sure its PAL (or PAL - BG)

The NZ system (and TV's) is PAL, US is NTSC and Europe SECAM
The wrong setting will give B&W
Many newer TVs will play NTSC as well as PAL

Did you go s-video to s-video? or s-video to RCA?

Only the first will work, because of the way s-video works - if your s-video to RCA cable has two RCA plugs what it does is splits colourants to one plug and luminants to the other, and it sounds like all you got was luminants. You'll either need to plug into a s-video plug, or find another way to plug into your tv (probably RCA-RCA would work best, if you've got an RCA video out on your laptop).
