70054 2002-08-10 23:28:00 I have Jedi Knight 2 :) and, I run the multiplayer version of it like all the time. But the problemX-( is that when I run the multiplayer version of Jedi Knight 2 on a server with more than 2 or 3 people my computer lags. My ping is usually very good but my actual computer lags when I like move and especially when I go into an area where there are many people fighting. I have all the requirements for multiplayer. I"m running, Windows 98SE on a AMD K7 Athlon 500. I also have 256mb of ram and a 32mb Geforce 2 MX 200. After checking with the official Jedi Knight 2 website I have found that what I have is quite adequate to play the game. And yet my computer still lags when playing even if I have the best ping in the game (usually 80). The only explanation which I have been able to come up with is that my hardrive is becoming full. But there is something very strange which I cannot understand. When I go to my computer and click on c: It says that my 7.8 gig harddrive has 5 gigs left, but when I open c: and select all the files and folders then click on properties it says the size of these files and folders is 7.3 gigs. ?:| I cannot understand why there is such a great size difference between my computer and the actual size if it is really?:|. If I get a bigger hardrive like say 40 gigs will that solve the problem. ?:|

:_| SOMEONE HELP ME PLEEEEEAAAAAAAASEE :_|

70055 2002-08-11 12:12:00 Is it your computer lagging or could it be the server lagging. -=JM=- (16)
70056 2002-08-11 22:43:00 Are you familiar with how a swap file works? Barring any disk errors (run scan disk to fix 'em), this is probably why you are getting different totals regarding used hard drive space. If this is true then the 5GB used space would be the correct total and should give you plenty of space for smooth gameplay.

You could try having a big cleanout of unused programs and files then running a defrag to make sure your hard drive is in good shape. Getting a nice new hard drive is always a good idea and performance will most likely be better...but this may not be the root of your problem.

Have you searched the internet for information on Jedi Outcast multiplayer to see if there are any known issues? I found this site which has a guide to tweaking JK2 multiplayer settings www.techspot.com there are bound to be other that are better though.

It could be the host's server having issues also...playing games online can be a troublesome beast.

70057 2002-08-12 13:44:00 Try lowering the graphics options, your machine may be adequate for the LOWEST graphic setting (640x480) no AA etc. Dragonslayer (512)
