70065 2002-08-11 00:31:00 When I log on to the PC World website I get this message:

Install on Demand - To display this page properly you need to download and install Java Virtual Machine.

I press OK, and get the following message from Microsoft:

We're sorry. Automatic installation of Microsoft Virtual Machine is no longer provided for Windows XP

... anyone know how to sort this out?

70067 2002-08-11 22:03:00 I suspect it is that HP ad again. You do not NEED java to view PCW. Do you have the option to click canecl and carry on? What browsre are you using? Biggles (121)
70068 2002-08-12 07:06:00 Thanks: IE 6.0 - and yes, the ad at the top of the page is blank. I have the same issue with other websites though, so I do want to get the browser set up to handle it. No problems in doing that? JohnB (1438)
70069 2002-08-12 07:12:00 People with Opera had a "minor problem" with that ad: it would crash their browser. It doesn't seem to hurt IE, presumably with an MS Java. The most uptodate Java from Sun is allegedly immune. Graham L (2)

70071 2002-08-13 12:28:00 My original problem has been solved by a download from java.sun.com

Thanks for the advice and help. Much appreciated.
